Dan Mays

Dan Mays is a HCPC registered music therapist and professional musician based in Southend, with over 30 years of experience as a performer and 20 as an educator. His journey in music began with jazz and evolved into a passion for using music to support wellbeing. Over the years, he has worked in SEND schools and NHS adult mental health settings, delivering both one-to-one sessions and group music therapy.

Trained at Anglia Ruskin University (MA in Music Therapy) and Middlesex University (BA in Jazz), Dan brings a rich musical background and a multi-instrumentalist approach to every session. His ability to improvise and adapt to each individual means he can connect with clients of all ages and abilities, helping them express themselves, build confidence, and develop communication skills through music.

Dan combines professional expertise with a warm, empathetic approach, creating sessions that are not only therapeutic but also engaging, creative, and tailored to each person’s unique needs. For him, music is more than an art form it’s a way to connect, empower, and inspire growth.
