What is music therapy?
Music therapy is an HCPC regulated profession, delivered by trained and qualified music therapists who use musical interaction to support psychological, emotional, cognitive, and social wellbeing. At Southend Music Therapy, we offer a person-centred approach, adapting interventions to meet the unique needs of each client. Sessions may involve improvisation, listening, songwriting, or musical activities, always within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship.
Southend Music Therapy provides specialist, evidence-based music therapy services to individuals and groups across Southend-on-Sea, Essex, London and the surrounding area. Our work is grounded in the understanding that music is a powerful medium for communication, self-expression, and emotional processing, particularly when words are difficult to find.
We work with a wide range of client groups, including:
Children and young people with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or emotional and behavioural needs.
Adults and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, or social isolation.
Older adults, including those living with dementia or age-related conditions.
Individuals and families receiving palliative or end-of-life care.
Our services are available in schools, healthcare settings, care homes, and community spaces, as well as through private referral. We also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that music therapy integrates effectively with wider support networks.
At Southend Music Therapy, our mission is to use music as a catalyst for growth, resilience, and connection helping people find their voice and build meaningful pathways towards improved wellbeing.
